2011 World Cup opening revives spirits, adds pomp (Dhaka)

The 10th ICC World Cup of Cricket started with a bang after a grand opening ceremony at the Bangabandhu stadium.

It was held in front of a packed audience that was transfixed by some incredible dance, music and fireworks.

This spectacular beginning has added a new dimension to an event which was generally devoid of such fanfare in the years gone by. Outside the stadium, Bangladeshi's gathered in their thousands to dance the night away in celebration.
