Steve Smith (138) and Joe Burns (170) stroked centuries and dominated day two with Australia closing on 4 for 363, trailing New Zealand by seven runs.

Burns and Smith put on 289 for the 3rd wicket after the early loss of Khawaja. Australia 363 for 4 (Burns 170, Smith 138, Wagner 2-85) trail New Zealand 370 by seven runs.
