1937: Hutton scores his first ton, against New Zealand (Old Trafford)

Len Hutton posted his maiden Test century as England defeated New Zealand by 130 runs amidst rain interruptions.

The 21-year-old opener compiled a patient and assured 100 to help England reach 358/9 declared, laying the foundation for a 130-run victory.

After dismissing New Zealand for 229 and setting a target of 260, England bowled the tourists out for 129 to secure the win.

Coming just weeks after a disappointing debut at Lord’s, Hutton’s breakthrough hundred marked the beginning of a remarkable Test career that would see him become one of England’s greatest-ever batsmen.
