South Africa rout England, level series: 2nd Test, Day 4 (Trent Bridge)

Vernon Philander and Keshav Maharaj triggered an England batting collapse for a second time to hand South Africa a crushing 340-run win to level the 4 Test series 1-1.

Chasing a world record target of 474, England were bowled out for 133 with Alastair Cook (42) top scoring.

This was South Africa's first win at Trent Bridge after 52 years and also Joe Root's first defeat as captain.

South Africa 335 (Amla 78, de Kock 68, Philander 54, Anderson 5-72) and 343 for 9 dec (Amla 87, Elgar 80, du Plessis 63, Moeen 4-78) beat England 205 (Root 78, Maharaj 3-21, Morris 3-38) and 133 (Philander 3-24, Maharaj 3-42) by 340 runs.
