Brilliant Bairstow to the rescue after Southee five: 2nd Test, Day 1 (Christchurch)

Jonny Bairstow stroked a brilliant 97 not out to rescue England who were tottering at 94-5.

England lost three wickets in nine balls before Bairstow and Mark Wood (52), steadied the innings by putting on 95 for the 8th wicket.

Tim Southee ended the day with 5-60 as England closed on 290-8.
