Young batsmen Kusal Mendis and Oshada Fernando plundered South Africa to secure a historic series win with a 2-0 whitewash.

The tourists become the first Asian team to win a series in South Africa with this eight-wicket win.

After dismissing the home side for 128 in its second innings, Sri Lanka came into day three needing 137 runs to win with eight wickets in hand, before winning with ease as Kusal Mendis (84 not out) and Oshada Fernando (75 not out) reeled off an unbeaten 163-run stand in the morning session.

Sri Lanka 154 (Dickwella 42, Rabada 4-38) and 197 for 2 (Mendis 84*, Oshada 75*, Olivier 1-46) beat South Africa 222 (De Kock 86, Vishwa 3-62, Rajitha 3-67) and 128 (Du Plessis 50*, Lakmal 4-39, de Silva 3-36) by eight wickets.
