Klaasen rescues South Africa in tense win over Bangladesh: 2024 T20 World Cup (New York)

Heinrich Klaasen hit a critical 46 as South Africa came from the brink to claim a narrow four-run victory over Bangladesh that put them on the brink of securing a place in the Super 8s round.

Coming together with Bangladesh struggling at 50/4, Mahmudullah (20) and Towhid Hridoy (37) put on 44 to get Bangladesh almost over the line. They needed only 6 off the last 2 balls but Mahmudullah fell to Maharaj. They eventually managed 109/7 eventually falling four runs short.

Earlier,  Klaasen hit three fours and two sixes in his 44-ball innings as he shared a 79-run partnership with the dependable David Miller (29) to help South Africa recover from 23-4 to post a defendable 113-6.

South Africa 113 for 6 (Klaasen 46, Miller 29, Tanzim 3-18, Taskin 2-19) beat Bangladesh 109 for 7 (Hridoy 37, Maharaj 3-27, Nortje 2-17, Rabada 2-19) by four runs.
