Suryakumar Yadav stroked a silky fifty as India qualified for the Super Eight stage with a seven-wicket win over the United States.
Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh had an impressive spell of 4-9 as he helped restrict the United States to 110-8.
In reply, USA's left arm paceman Saurabh Netravalkar (2-18) got Kohli for a golden duck and then picked up the wicket of fellow opener Rohit Sharma via a leading edge to leave India reeling at 10-2.
Yadav (50 not out) and Shivam Dube (31 not out) steadied the innings and took India to victory with 10 balls to spare.
India 111 for 3 (Suryakumar 50*, Dube 31*, Netravalkar 2-18) beat USA 110 for 8 (Nitish 27, Taylor 24, Arshdeep 4-9, Hardik 2-14) by seven wickets.
