Salt peppers Windies in crushing win for England: 2024 T20 World Cup S8 (Gros Islet)

Opener Phil Salt smashed a rapid fifty as England crushed the West Indies in their home conditions at St Lucia in the Super8's round.

England eased to their target of 180 with 15 balls remaining, with Salt hitting 87 not out from 47 deliveries with five sixes and seven fours. Bairstow struck 48 not out to complete the rout.

Earlier, opener Brandon King started with a 101 metre six, before retiring hurt due to a groin pull. Jonathan Charles and Nicholas Pooran, at No. 3, took the score to 82 for no loss at the halfway mark. Johnson Charles (38), Nicholas Pooran (36), and Rovman Powell (36) helped propel the hosts to 180 for 4.

England 181 for 2 (Salt 87*, Bairstow 48*) beat West Indies 180 for 4 (Charles 38, Powell 36, Rashid 1-21) by eight wickets.
