Hartley routs India for surprise win: 1st Test, Day 4 (Hyderabad)

Ollie Pope magnificent century and and 7-62 from debutant spinner Tom Hartley enabled England to hustle out India for 202 and claim a narrow 28 run win.

Hartley’s seven-wicket haul inflicted India’s fourth defeat on home soil in 11 years.

Earlier, Ollie Pope’s sublime 196 rescued England from near-certain defeat and helped set a target that gave England’s bowlers a chance.

England 246 (Stokes 70, Bairstow 37, Ashwin 3-68, Jadeja 3-88) and 420 (Pope 196, Duckett 47, Bumrah 4-41, Ashwin 3-126) beat India 436 (Jadeja 87, Rahul 86, Jaiswal 80) and 202 (Rohit 39, Hartley 7-62) by 28 runs.
