The original stadium (Sardar Patel Stadium / Motera) was established in 1982–83 on ~50 acres on the banks of the Sabarmati river, with its first international match (a Test) in November 1983 between India and West Indies.

  • Owner / Operator: Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). 

  • Capacity: ~132,000 spectators, making it the world’s largest cricket stadium. 

  • Naming: Named after the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. Previously, the venue was known as Motera Stadium; historically also linked to Sardar Patel Stadium.
