Dilip Doshi (born December 22, 1947, Rajkot, Gujarat – died June 23, 2025) was a classical slow left-arm orthodox spinner. He made a notably late international debut at the age of 32 but quickly established himself as India’s leading left-arm spinner in the post-Bishan Singh Bedi era.
Known for his accuracy, flight, and tactical intelligence, Doshi represented India in 33 Test matches between 1979 and 1983, claiming 114 wickets, including six five-wicket hauls, and played 15 One-Day Internationals, taking 22 wickets.
At the domestic level, Doshi enjoyed a long and prolific career, taking 898 wickets in 238 first-class matches while representing Saurashtra and Bengal, along with successful stints in English county cricket for Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire. He was a key contributor to India’s famous Test victory at Melbourne in 1981, bowling through injury in a match that became part of cricketing folklore.
After retiring, he remained involved in cricket and business, and is remembered as a cerebral, disciplined spinner whose impact far outweighed the brevity of his international career.
