Terry Alderman was born on June 12, 1956 at Subiaco, Perth, Western Australia. He is a right arm swing bowler who made his first class debut at 18 in 1974/75.
He made his Test debut on the tour England in 1981. In this series dubbed "Botham's Ashes", he took a record 42 Test wickets, including nine on debut.
He was named as a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in the Almanack's 1982 edition.
Alderman dislocated his shoulder after tackling a spectator during the 1982/83 Ashes Test match in Perth.
He was banned for 3 years after touring South Africa with a rebel team in 1985.
He returned to the Australian side, taking 41 wickets in the 1989 Ashes series. During this series, he worked with Allan Border to strangle Graham Gooch scoring on the leg side with 2 midwicket fielders. This tactic was successful as it reduced England's most prolific batsman to a wreck.
Alderman retired after the 1990 series with the West Indies. He now spends his time as a cricket commentator with ABC Radio.
