Abhishek Nayar was an all-rounder known for his consistency and grit in domestic cricket.
Born on October 8, 1983, in Secunderabad, he represented Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and became one of their most reliable performers through the 2000s and early 2010s.
A left-handed middle-order batsman and right-arm medium pacer, Nayar scored over 5,700 runs in 103 first-class matches at an average of around 45, including 13 centuries and 27 fifties, with a highest score of 259 not out.
With the ball, he claimed 173 wickets at an average of 31, showcasing his value as a genuine all-rounder.
Although his international career was brief — playing 3 ODIs for India in 2009 — Nayar remained a key figure in domestic cricket and also featured for teams like Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab, and Pune Warriors India in the IPL.
After retirement, he transitioned into coaching and mentoring, contributing significantly to the development of several modern Indian cricketers, including helping shape the careers of players like Dinesh Karthik and Shreyas Iyer.
