James Rew is a wicketkeeper-batsman. Born on 29 January 2003, the left-hander progressed through Somerset’s academy before making his first-class debut as a teenager.
Rew first came to wider attention when he captained England at the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, where his leadership and composed batting highlighted his potential as a future international player.
Representing Somerset County Cricket Club, Rew has quickly established himself as a prolific run-scorer in the County Championship, compiling centuries and demonstrating the temperament to play long innings.
Equally capable behind the stumps, he has also represented England Lions, placing him firmly in contention for higher honours. His sound technique, patience, and ability to perform under pressure have made him one of England’s most highly rated young batters.
Rew was picked to replace Jamie Smith for the 2nd Test against NZ at the Oval in June 2026.
