Vitel Orlando Lawes (born 3 March 2007) is a highly promising Jamaican left-arm wrist-spinner who has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in Caribbean cricket.
A rare exponent of left-arm wrist spin, Lawes impressed through the West Indies age-group system with his ability to generate sharp turn, flight and variation while maintaining excellent control. He first gained widespread recognition during the 2026 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he finished as the West Indies’ leading wicket-taker and established himself as one of the tournament’s standout young bowlers.
Lawes’ rapid rise continued in July 2026 when he earned a surprise call-up to the West Indies One-Day International squad for the home series against New Zealand despite not yet having made his senior professional debut. The selection reflected the faith of Cricket West Indies in his exceptional potential and highlighted the rarity of his bowling style.
Still only a teenager, Lawes is regarded as a long-term prospect capable of becoming a valuable attacking spinner for the West Indies, with his unique skill set offering an exciting addition to the region’s future bowling resources.
