Smith century propels Aussies in front: 1st Test, Day 3 (Gabba)

Skipper Steve Smith hit his 21st Test century and two early wickets from Josh Hazlewood left England under pressure as Australia gained control of the 1st Test.

Mark Stoneman (19no) and Joe Root (5no) fought hard until stumps to prevent further damage as England closed on 33-2.

Earlier, Steve Smith posted a fine hundred (141 not out) from 261 balls. Pat Cummins (42) lent crucial support to Smith as the pair added 66 for the 9th wicket which allowed Australia to take a 26 run first innings lead.

England 302 and 2 for 33 lead Australia 328 (Smith 141*, Marsh 51) by seven runs.
