Siraj burst restores India after Atkinson five: 5th Test, Day 2 (Oval)

Paceman Mohammed Siraj was outstanding in taking 4-86 as India stormed back into contention by knocking over England for 247 at Lords.

15 wickets fell on the day as India fought back to seize the upper hand. India resumed on 204-6 overnight but were all out for 224. Gus Atkinson claimed his fourth Test five‑wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5‑33, supported by key contributions from Josh Tongue and Jamie Overton.

England’s reply began explosively: openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley smashed 92 runs in 12.5 overs. But after the lunch break England collapsed, losing six wickets for 106 runs and finishing all out for 247. Siraj took the key wickets of Root, Pope and Bethel in a short burst after lunch to turn the match on its head.

India’s response began with aggression: Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a rapid fifty (51 * off 49 balls), benefiting from a couple of reprieves, as India ended the day on 75 for 2, leading by 52 runs.

India 224 (Nair 57, Atkinson 5-33) and 75 for 2 (Jaiswal 51*, Tongue 1-25) lead England 247 (Crawley 64, Brook 53, Prasidh 4-62, Siraj 4-86) by 52 runs.
