Rizwan, Salman rescue Pakistan after collapse: 1st Test, Day 1 (Lahore)

Pakistan made a late recovery via a century partnership between Rizwan and Salman in the first Test against South Africa in Lahore, finishing Day 1 on 313 for 5 after opting to bat first.

Openers Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood set the tone with a solid partnership, scoring 93 and 76 respectively to give the hosts a strong platform. After both fell in quick succession, Pakistan stumbled to 199-5, as they inexplicably lost 3 wickets for no runs.

Mohammad Rizwan rescued the innings with an unbeaten 62, while Salman Agha added a fluent 52 to keep the scoreboard moving.

South Africa’s spinners found some assistance from the surface, with Senuran Muthusamy taking 2 wickets, while Simon Harmer, Prenelan Subrayen, and Kagiso Rabada claimed one each. Despite those breakthroughs, Pakistan ended the day well placed, looking to build on their advantage heading into Day 2.
