Tucker, Moondra deliver historic Irish win over India: 1st T20 (Belfast)

In a massive boil over, Ireland produced a memorable performance to upset India by 34 runs in the opening T20I at Belfast, securing their first-ever international victory over India.

Batting first, Ireland posted 182/9 after recovering from early setbacks, with captain Lorcan Tucker leading the innings with a composed half-century. Gareth Delany provided vital late momentum with an aggressive unbeaten 49, helping the hosts add crucial runs in the closing overs despite India’s bowlers striking regularly.

India’s chase of 183 began brightly through Abhishek Sharma, who smashed a rapid half-century, but the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to build substantial partnerships.

Ireland’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings, with Matt Humphreys and debutant Matt Hollard starring with the ball as India were dismissed for 148 in 18.5 overs. The victory gave Ireland a 1-0 lead in the series and marked one of the biggest wins in the country’s cricket history.
