SL hits back but Jangoo keeps Windies in contention: 1st Test, Day 2 (Antigua)

West Indies fought back strongly on the second day of the opening Test against Sri Lanka, closing on 271/5 in reply to the visitors’ first-innings total of 308.

The hosts recovered from early setbacks through a series of important partnerships, with Amir Jangoo leading the resistance with a composed 78. His innings, combined with valuable contributions from the top order, helped West Indies reduce the deficit and shift the momentum after Sri Lanka had enjoyed the better of the opening day.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers continued to battle hard, with Asitha Fernando and Milan Rathnayake picking up key wickets to keep the tourists narrowly ahead.

However, the visitors suffered a setback when fast bowler Lahiru Kumara left the field with a hamstring injury, limiting Sri Lanka’s pace options.

With Roston Chase unbeaten at the close and West Indies trailing by only 37 runs, the match remained finely balanced heading into the third day.

West Indies 271 for 5 (Jangoo 78*, Chase 42*, Asitha 2-25, Rathnayaka 2-45) trail Sri Lanka 308 by 37 runs.
