Roach routs SL, Windies romps home by innings: 1st Test, Day 4 (Antigua)

Paceman Kemar Roach took his 300th Test wicket as West Indies completed a dominant victory over Sri Lanka on the fourth day of the opening Test after their bowlers capitalised on the massive first-innings lead established by Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase.

Beginning the day under pressure, Sri Lanka needed a substantial batting effort to save the match but struggled to cope with the disciplined West Indies attack. Regular wickets prevented the visitors from building meaningful partnerships, leaving them unable to erase the 318-run deficit.

Shamar Joseph and the supporting pace attack shared the wickets as Sri Lanka were dismissed for 101 in their second innings, handing West Indies an innings victory and a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

The result capped a superb all-round performance from the hosts, highlighted by Jangoo’s double century and Chase’s unbeaten 179, while the bowlers completed the job to secure one of West Indies’ most convincing Test victories in recent years.

West Indies 626 for 9 dec (Jangoo 233, Chase 194, Rathnayaka 5-124) beat Sri Lanka 308 (De Silva 120, Chandimal 54, Greaves 3-39) & 101 (Chandimal 43, Roach 4-51, Seales 3-14) by an innings and 217 runs.
