Hopes, Greaves lead Windies fightback, frustrate SL: 2nd Test, Day 3 (Antigua)

West Indies staged a spirited fightback on day three of the second Test, reaching 318/4 at stumps in reply to Sri Lanka’s imposing 549/9 declared.

Captain Shai Hope led from the front with an unbeaten 86, while Justin Greaves finished the day on 85 not out after joining Hope with the hosts in a precarious position at 144/4. Their unbroken 174-run fifth-wicket partnership frustrated the Sri Lankan attack and kept West Indies firmly in the contest.

Earlier, John Campbell laid the platform with a patient 72 before falling shortly before lunch, while Sri Lanka’s bowlers were unable to build on their early breakthroughs.

Although West Indies still trail by 231 runs, the outstanding stand between Hope and Greaves has placed the hosts in a strong position to avoid the follow-on
