Tongue knocks over Pakistan for 133: 3rd Test, Day 1 (Edgbaston)

Paceman Josh Tongue was on song with the ball as England dominated the opening day of the third Test at Edgbaston, bowling Pakistan out for just 133 in 33.5 overs after choosing to field.

Tongue took 4/42, with Ollie Robinson (3/15) and Jofra Archer (3/25) providing excellent support. Pakistan’s top order collapsed to 26/4, leaving Saud Shakeel to offer the main resistance with 43. Robinson also reached the significant milestone of 100 Test wickets, underlining his outstanding record.

England themselves stumbled to 39/3, with debutant Razaullah making an immediate impact by dismissing Joe Root with only his fourth delivery.

But Emilio Gay (60) and Harry Brook (52)* turned the innings around with a vital 104-run partnership, taking England to 156/4 at stumps, a lead of 23. Pakistan showed flashes of promise through Razaullah’s pace, but England finished the day firmly in control after another damaging Pakistani batting collapse.

England 156 for 4 (Gay 60, Brook 52*, Razaullah 2-42) lead Pakistan 133 (Shakeel 43, Tongue 4-42, Robinson 3-15, Archer 3-25) by 23 runs.
