Windies in charge after Chase triggers Bangladesh collapse: 1st Test, Day 3 (Mirpur)

Spinner Roston Chase took 3 quick wickets to put Bangladesh on the back foot at the end of the third day of the first Test against West Indies in Mirpur.

The visitors posted 272 as Tagenarine Chanderpaul top-scored with 56, John Campbell made 54 and Justin Greaves contributed 46. Nayeem Hasan was Bangladesh’s leading bowler with four wickets for 33 runs.

Bangladesh struggled against the West Indies spin attack in their second innings, slipping to 79 for six at stumps to hold an overall lead of just 106 runs.

Roston Chase claimed three wickets for 25, while Jomel Warrican took two for 19 to put the visitors firmly on top. Jaker Ali, unbeaten on 18, and Nayeem Hasan, also on 18 not out, offered some resistance, but Bangladesh face a difficult task on the fourth morning to build a competitive target.

Bangladesh 272 and 79 for 6 (Jaker 18*, Nayeem 18*, Chase 3-25, Warrican 2-19) lead West Indies 272 (Chanderpaul 56, Campbell 54, Greaves 46, Nayeem 4-33) by 106 runs.
