Proteas in control despite Clarke knock: 3rd Test, Day 1 (SCG)

South Africa leading the series 2-0 were hoping to inflict Australia's first home whitewash in 122 years and take the No 1 test ranking.

They lost the toss but came back strongly to peg Australia to 267-6 on a good batting wicket.

Michael Clarke held the innings together with a steady 73 not out at the close. He was dropped twice.

Dale Steyn took the crucial late wicket of Brad Haddin 38 with the new ball to end a 75run partnership with Michael Clarke.
