Spinner Rangana Herath took five wickets to restrict Pakistan to 244 for six in reply to Sri Lanka's 320.
Pakistan's top order were spun out by Herath and they were struggling at 140 for 5 before Sarfraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq rescued the visitors.
