New Zealand gained the upper hand after Pakistan lost both their openers to reach 34-2 at stumps in reply to New Zealand's total of 403.

Earlier, New Zealand owed their total to the tailenders, who added 125 runs for the last four wickets through Craig (43), BJ Watling (39) and Sodhi (32 not out).

Pakistan 34 for 2 trail New Zealand 403 (Latham 137, Babar 4-137) by 369 runs.
