On 25 June 1932, India started its journey in international Cricket as a Test-playing nation, making its debut against England at Lord's. The series is fought over two trophies: 

Anthony de Mello Trophy:
This trophy was awarded for the Test series played between India and England when the series is held in India.
 
Pataudi Trophy:
This trophy was awarded when the Test series between India and England is played in England.
 
In June 2025, the ECB and BCCI decided to award the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy to the winning team.
 
 
1993 IND v ENG Tests

The 1992–93 England tour of India was a three-match Test series and a seven-match ODI series played between January and March 1993.

Mohammed Azharuddin led India to a crushing 3-0 series win over England skippered by Graham Gooch.
