Jake Beath Weatherald (born 4 November 1994 in Darwin, Northern Territory) is an Australian cricketer known for his left-handed opening batting and occasional right-arm leg-spin bowling. He made his first-class debut with South Australia during the 2015–16 Sheffield Shield season, quickly making an impression with crucial half-centuries in the final. Over eight seasons with the Redbacks, he became a consistent performer, scoring multiple centuries and forging a reputation as a technically sound yet aggressive top-order batter.
In the Big Bash League, Weatherald has been a stalwart for the Adelaide Strikers. His defining moment came in BBL|07, when he became the first player to score a century in a BBL final, putting together 115 off just 70 balls to help the Strikers lift their maiden title. Seeking a fresh start, he moved to Tasmania for the 2023–24 season, where he revitalized his form. In 2024–25, he was the Sheffield Shield’s top run-scorer — a breakthrough campaign that propelled him into serious contention for national honors.
Beyond the runs, Weatherald’s journey has been marked by resilience. He has spoken publicly about his battles with mental health, including depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder, and credits his family, coaching support, and personal growth for his revival. His strong 2025 form saw him earn his first Test squad call-up for Australia in the Ashes opener in Perth.
