Ross "Roscoe" Taylor is a right handed batsman of Samoan descent. He was born on 8 March 1984 in Lower Hutt, New Zealand.
After captaining the New Zealand U-19 team, he made his international debut for New Zealand against the West Indies on 1st March 2006 scoring 15. He made his first ODI ton against Sri Lanka (128 not out in 133 balls) in only his 3rd match in 2006. He made his test debut against South Africa at the Wanderers in the 1st Test on 8th Nov 2007 making 15 and 4. He made a patient first up test century (120) against Pakistan in 2007.
He came of age when he struck a superb 138 against Australia in Hamilton Seddon Park in 2010. He has become New Zealand's most reliable batsman and is a clean striker of the ball.
When Daniel Vettori was struck down with injury just prior to play, Taylor captained New Zealand for the first time against Australia March 3, 2010 in Napier. He was also picked to captain the Black Caps on their tour to Sri Lanka for the Tri-Nations series in Aug 2010 as Vettori stayed at home on parternity leave.
