Hunter “Stork” Hendry was a tall and elegant Australian cricketer who played 11 Tests for Australia between 1921 and 1929.
A right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler, he earned his nickname for his lanky frame.
Hendry scored 335 Test runs at an average of 20.93, including a memorable century against England in the 1928–29 Ashes.
In first-class cricket, he was far more prolific, amassing 6,799 runs at 37.56 and taking 229 wickets. He was also widely regarded for his sharp slip fielding.
After retiring, Hendry remained involved in the game through administrative roles at the Melbourne Cricket Club. He passed away in 1988 at the age of 93, then the oldest living Australian Test cricketer, remembered as a dedicated servant of the game both on and off the field.
