Nic Maddinson is an Australian left-handed batter born on 21 December 1991 in Nowra, New South Wales.

An aggressive stroke-maker capable of scoring quickly, he made his first-class debut for New South Wales during the 2010–11 Sheffield Shield season, announcing himself with a century against South Australia. He made his T20 International debut against India in 2013 and his Test debut against South Africa in November 2016, going on to play three Tests for Australia.

Maddinson’s domestic career flourished after he moved to Victoria in 2018. He became a prolific Sheffield Shield performer, scoring 10 centuries and establishing himself as one of the state’s leading batters. He also featured prominently in the Big Bash League, representing franchises including the Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder.

He returned to New South Wales ahead of the 2024–25 season, bringing extensive domestic experience and an aggressive approach to the top order.

In 2025, Maddinson was diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent surgery and chemotherapy, forcing an interruption to his playing career. He subsequently made his return to professional cricket in early 2026, demonstrating considerable determination in his comeback. His performances included a century in the One-Day Cup against Victoria in September 2026, helping bring him back into the national selection picture.

In October 2026, he was recalled to Australia’s Test squad for the tour of South Africa. He played in the first Test at Durban, a return nearly a decade after his last Test appearance.
