Noman edges Pakistan ahead in tense contest with South Africa: 1st Test, Day 3 (Lahore)

On Day 3 of the 1st Test at Gaddafi Stadium, the match saw a dramatic turn with 16 wickets falling. South Africa were bowled out for 269 in their first innings, trailing Pakistan by 109 runs. Spinner Noman Ali was the standout bowler for Pakistan, claiming a six wickets and significantly reducing the visitors’ total.

Earlier, Tony de Zorzi struck  superb century to push South Africa to 269.

In response, Pakistan were dismissed for 167, setting South Africa a target of 277 runs.

The Proteas faced a challenging chase but ended the day at 51/2, needing 226 more runs to win. Ryan Rickelton was at the crease with 29 runs not out.

South Africa 51 for 2 (Rickelton 29*, de Zorzi 16*, Noman 2-20) and 269 (de Zorzi 104, Noman 6-112, Sajid 3-98) need another 226 runs to beat Pakistan 167 (Babar 42, Muthusamy 5-57, Harmer 4-51) and 378 (Agha 93, Imam 93, Masood 76, Rizwan 75, Muthusamy 6-117).
