Marsh inspires win after Indian batting falters in the rain: 1st ODI (Perth)

Skipper Mitch Marsh was in good form with the bat as Australia defeated India by seven wickets (DLS method) in the first ODI at Perth to take a 1–0 lead in the three-match series.

Batting first in a rain-reduced 26-over contest, India struggled to 136 for 9 after early breakthroughs from Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood dismantled the top order. KL Rahul offered brief resistance with 38 off 31 balls, but wickets fell regularly on a lively surface.

Australia’s chase was clinical despite losing two early wickets, with Marsh anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 46 from 52 balls and Josh Philippe adding 37 off 29. The hosts reached their revised target of 131 in 21.1 overs, sealing a comfortable win in damp conditions and exposing India’s vulnerability against the new ball.

Australia 131 for 3 (Marsh 46*, Philippe 37) beat India 136 for 9 (Rahul 38) by seven wickets (DLS squad).
