Spinner Simon Harmer took a career best haul as South Africa completed a dominant eight-wicket victory over Pakistan on Day 4 of the second Test in Rawalpindi, leveling the series 1-1.
Pakistan, resuming their second innings under pressure, were bundled out for just 138 as Harmer tore through the middle and lower order taking 6-50.
Chasing a modest target of 68, South Africa’s openers set the tone before Tony de Zorzi and Aiden Markram finished the job comfortably within 12 overs.
Pakistan’s batting collapse proved decisive after their promising first-innings display, while South Africa’s disciplined bowling and composed chase showcased their resilience and adaptability. The win not only squared the series but also boosted South Africa’s World Test Championship hopes, while Pakistan were left ruing missed opportunities at home.
South Africa 404 (Muthusamy 89*, Stubbs 76, Rabada 71, Asif 6-79) and 73 for 2 (Markram 42, Rickelton 25*) beat Pakistan 333 (Masood 87, Shakeel 66, Maharaj 7-102) and 138 (Babar 50, Harmer 6-50) by eight wickets.
