Tickner knocks over Windies, puts NZ on top: 2nd Test, Day 1 (Wellington)

The New Zealand vs West Indies 2nd Test got off to a dramatic start on Day 1 at Basin Reserve in Wellington. The home side chose to bowl first — and it paid off: West Indies cricket team were dismissed for just 205 in 75 overs, thanks largely to a ruthless spell from Blair Tickner (4 wickets for 32 runs) and a strong debut by Michael Rae (3/67).

By stumps, New Zealand were 24/0 (after 9 overs), trailing by 181 runs, with openers Devon Conway (16* ) and Tom Latham (7*) hanging in — a promising start.

However the day ended on a worrying note for New Zealand: Tickner, after being their star bowler, suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder while diving to stop a boundary and was stretchered off the ground, leaving his participation in the match in doubt.

New Zealand 24 for no loss (Conway 16*, Latham 7*) trail West Indies 205 (Hope 48, Campbell 44, Tickner 4-32, Rae 3-67) by 181 runs.
