Samra ton in vain, Phillips fireworks guides NZ to S8s: T20 World Cup No 31 (Chennai)

Canada posted a competitive 173/4 in 20 overs against New Zealand at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Teenage sensation Yuvraj Samra smashed 110 off 65 balls, producing one of the standout individual innings of the tournament, while Dilpreet Bajwa added 36 to give Canada a total that looked testing in a high-stakes group encounter.

New Zealand, however, chased it down in commanding fashion, reaching 176/2 in 15.1 overs to win by 8 wickets. Glenn Phillips blasted 76 off 36 balls, and Rachin Ravindra finished unbeaten on 59, as the Black Caps sealed qualification momentum with a clinical and rapid run chase despite Samra’s historic century.

New Zealand 176 for 2 (Phillips 76*, Ravindra 59*, Saad 1-29) beat Canada 173 for 4 (Samra 110, Bajwa 36, Duffy 1-25) by eight wickets.
