Farhan century propels Pakistan past SL in thrilling finish: T20 World Cup S8 No 50 ...

Opener Sahibzada Farhan made a superb century as Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by five runs in the T20 World Cup Super 8s but missed out on a semi-final spot on net run-rate.

Pakistan piled up 212/8 in 20 overs, driven by a superb opening onslaught. Sahibzada Farhan smashed 100 off 60 balls, while Fakhar Zaman hammered 84 off 42, the pair adding a record 176-run partnership that set the tone for a commanding total.

Despite a few late wickets, Pakistan’s powerplay dominance and sustained aggression ensured Sri Lanka were set a daunting target.

In reply, Sri Lanka pushed hard but finished on 207/6 in 20 overs, falling just 5 runs short.

Dasun Shanaka blasted 76 off 31 balls*, and Pavan Rathnayake contributed 58, keeping the chase alive deep into the final over. It was a thrilling finish, but Pakistan held their nerve to secure a narrow victory in a high-scoring Super 8 contest.

Pakistan 212 for 8 (Farhan 100, Fakhar 84, Madushanka 3-33) beat Sri Lanka 207 for 6 (Shanaka 76*, Rathnayake 58, Abrar 3-23) by five runs.
