India fightback with Thakur and Bumrah: 4th Test, Day 1 (Oval)

England were in control for much of the opening day as India were bowled out for 191.

A record-breaking 31-ball fifty by No.8 Shardul Thakur dented England late in the innings.

Bumrah then led India’s fightback by snapping up the openers cheaply before Root was bowled by Umesh Yadav for 21 to leave the hosts at 53-3.

Opting to bowl on winning the toss, Chris Woakes took 4-55 in his first Test in more than a year and Ollie Robinson continuing his good form with 3-38 as England dominated India in the first two sessions.

England 53 for 3 (Malan 26*, Bumrah 2-15) trail India 191 (Thakur 57, Kohli 50, Woakes 4-55, Robinson 3-38) by 138 runs.
