Description:
Westpac Stadium

Westpac Stadium in Wellington was officially opened in 2000. It's colloquially called the “Cake Tin” because of its circular, metallic exterior – is one of New Zealand’s premier multi-sport venues.

Located on reclaimed land near Wellington’s waterfront rail yards, it became the home of international cricket in the capital, plus Super Rugby (Hurricanes) and A-League football (Wellington Phoenix).

The ground traditionally offers pace and bounce with wind influence often a major factor in day–night matches.

Its seated capacity sits just over 34,000 for cricket/football, with temporary adjustments for major events. Westpac held the naming rights from 2000–2019 before the stadium moved to commercial renaming as Sky Stadium, but the “Cake Tin” nickname remains the most persistent identifier for fans and broadcasters.
