Pope ton adds to Indian woes after collapse: 1st Test, Day 2 (Leeds)

Ollie Pope struck a magnificent century to guide England to 209-3 and parity with India on day 2 at Leeds.

In overcast conditions, England were faced with the threat of Bumrah (3-48). Pope (100 not out) and Duckett (62) added 122 for the second wicket to calm England’s nerves.

Harry Brook (0 not out) was very fortunate to survive in the final over of the day when he was caught off a Bumrah no ball.

Earlier, Risbah Pant smashed 134 and India were cruising late in the morning session on 430-3. The visitors then lost 7-41 to be all out for 471. Tongue used reverse swing to take 4-86.

England 209 for 3 (Pope 100*, Duckett 62, Pope 48*, Root 28, Bumrah 3-48) trail India 471 (Gill 147, Pant 134, Jaiswal 101, Stokes 4-66, Tongue 4-86) by 262 runs.
