Smith, Brook heroics in vain as Siraj triggers England collapse: 2nd Test, Day 3 ...

Jamie Smith and Harry Brook produced a brilliant rearguard counter attack but a late England collapse enabled India to regain command on the third day of the second Test at Edgbaston.

Smith hit a 80-ball century and his 184 not out is the highest score by an England Test wicketkeeper. He shared a 303-run stand with Harry Brook (158) for the 6th wicket after England collapsed to 84-5.

England lost their last 5 wickets for 20 runs as Siraj snapped up 6-70.

India extended their advantage to 244 by stumps, for the loss of only Yashasvi Jaiswal (28 from 22 balls) with KL Rahul on 28 not out.

India 587 & 64-1: Rahul 28*; Tongue 1-12 lead England 407: Smith 184*, Brook 158; Siraj 6-70 by 244 runs.
