1988 Bicentennial Test: Boon and Broad star in high scoring affair (SCG)

The 1988 Bicentennial Test between Australia and England, held at the SCG to mark 200 years since European settlement, ended in a high-scoring draw.

Though it didn’t carry Ashes significance, the Bicentennial Test was a symbolic celebration of Anglo-Australian cricketing heritage. It also served as a soft prelude to the intense 1989 Ashes series.

The match is remembered for its sportsmanship, commemorative spirit, and Boon’s commanding innings in the second innings, which cemented his place in the Australian top order.

England opener Chris Broad struck 139 to hold the first innings together as the visitors posted 425.
