Jaiswal century edges India ahead as England face stiff chase: 5th Test, Day 3 (Oval)

Day 3 of the England vs India 5th Test at The Oval was dominated by India’s impressive batting performance, with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring a brilliant century.

Resuming at 75/2 with a lead of just 52, the overnight pair of Jaiswal (118) and nightwatchman Akash Deep (66) successfully defied England’s short-ball tactics and tired bowling attack minus the injured Woakes to put India in a commanding position. India eventually set England a challenging target of 374 runs to win. Tongue took 5-118.

Zak Crawley bowled by Mohammed Siraj for 14 on the last ball of the day as the hosts reached 50-1, needing a further 324 runs to win. Ben Duckett was unbeaten on 34.

India 224 (Nair 57, Atkinson 5-33, Tongue 3-57) & 396 (Jaiswal 118; Tongue 5-125) lead England 247 (Crawley 64, Brook 53; Krishna 4-62, Siraj 4-86) & 50-1 (Siraj 1-11) by 324 runs.
