Bethell, Root centuries pound South Africa in record win: 3rd ODI (Southampton)

Jacob Bethell posted his maiden ODI century as England produced a historic performance in the 3rd ODI against South Africa at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, storming to a record 342-run victory—the biggest winning margin in men’s ODI history.

Batting first, England piled up 414 for 5, with Joe Root (100) providing a steady anchor, Jacob Bethell (110) announcing himself with his maiden international century, and Jos Buttler (62 not out) accelerating the innings in the final overs.

In reply, South Africa capitulated for just 72 in 20.5 overs, undone by a fiery Jofra Archer (4/18) and crafty Adil Rashid (3/13), while captain Temba Bavuma was unable to bat due to injury.

Though South Africa had already sealed the series 2–1 with victories in the first two games, this emphatic English win not only salvaged pride but also underlined their firepower heading into the T20I series.

England 414 for 5 (Bethell 110, Root 100, Buttler 62*, Smith 62) beat South Africa 72 (Archer 4-18, Rashid 3-13) by 342 runs.
