Skipper Mitch Marsh shone as Australia began their three-match T20I series against New Zealand with a six-wicket win in the opening game at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, on 1 October 2025.
Tim Robinson smashed a maiden T20I century — 106 off 65 balls — for New Zealand in their first-innings against Australia, providing a brilliant counterpunch amid early top-order collapses.
Chasing a modest target of 186 set by the hosts, skipper Mitch Marsh anchored the innings with a composed knock to steer his side home. Despite flashes of resistance from New Zealand’s batting lineup, Australia’s bowlers kept the pressure on to restrict them, before the visiting batters controlled the chase with calm efficiency.
The victory gave Australia an early 1–0 lead in the series and underlined their strong preparation ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup.
Australia 185 for 4 (Marsh 85, Henry 2-43) beat New Zealand 181 for 6 (Robinson 106, Dwarshuis 2-40) by six wickets.
