Mohammed Siraj bowled with fire as India dominated Day 1 of the first Test against West Indies in Ahmedabad after bowling the visitors out for just 162.
Siraj (4/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) led the charge, with Kuldeep Yadav (2/25) also striking at key moments. Early breakthroughs saw Chanderpaul, Campbell, King, and Athanaze fall cheaply, while captain Shai Hope’s 26 was the best resistance before the innings folded quickly after lunch.
In reply, India reached 121/2 at stumps, reducing the deficit to just 41 runs. KL Rahul anchored the innings with a fluent 53, while Shubman Gill added 18. Sai Sudharsan was trapped lbw by Roston Chase for 7.
With India in control and a strong batting line-up still to come, the hosts are well placed heading into Day 2.
India 121 for 2 (Rahul 53*, Gill 18*) trail West Indies 162 (Greaves 32, Siraj 4-40, Bumrah 3-42, Kuldeep 2-25) by 41 runs
