Bennett, Evans star as Zimbabwe upset Aussies: T20 World Cup No 19 (RPS)

In a huge boilover, Zimbabwe pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the 2026 T20 World Cup, defeating Australia by 23 runs in their Group B clash at Colombo.

Batting first, Zimbabwe posted a confident 169/2, built around an unbeaten 64 from Brian Bennett, with Tadiwanashe Marumani (35) and Ryan Burl (35) providing strong support to set Australia a target of 170.

In reply, Australia were bowled out for 146 in 19.3 overs, falling short despite Matt Renshaw’s fighting 65 and Glenn Maxwell’s 31. Zimbabwe’s bowlers held their nerve under pressure, led by Blessing Muzarabani’s superb 4/17, sealing a famous victory that significantly boosts their campaign and dents Australia’s group prospects.

Zimbabwe 169 for 2 (Bennett 64*, Marumani 35, Burl 35, Green 1-6) beat Australia 146 (Renshaw 65, Muzarabani 4-17, Evans 3-23) by 23 runs.
