Foxcroft, Tickner power NZ win over Bangladesh: 1st ODI (Mirpur)

New Zealand edged out Bangladesh by 26 runs in the 1st ODI in Dhaka, taking a 1–0 lead in the series.

Batting first, New Zealand posted 247/8, built around a composed 68 from Henry Nicholls and a brisk 59 by Dean Foxcroft. On a slow Mirpur surface, their ability to rotate strike through the middle overs proved crucial in pushing the total to a competitive level.

In reply, Bangladesh were bowled out for 221 despite fighting contributions from Saif Hassan (57) and Towhid Hridoy (55). The chase faltered under sustained pressure from New Zealand’s seamers, with Blair Tickner (4/40) and Nathan Smith (3/45) triggering regular collapses. Bangladesh struggled to maintain momentum, and the mounting dot-ball pressure ultimately forced errors in the closing stages.

New Zealand 247 for 8 (Nicholls 68, Foxcroft 59, Shoriful 2-27) beat Bangladesh 221 (Saif 57, Hridoy 55, Tickner 4-40, Smith 3-4) by 26 runs.
